Jetstar’s Head of New Zealand, Shelley Musk, expressed the significance of this capacity boost, highlighting the company’s dedication to meeting the evolving needs of Kiwi travelers.

“This significant capacity boost comes off the back of increased demand across our domestic and international networks this year, as Kiwis seek out more choice and affordable travel options,” Ms. Musk said.

“As we head into 2024, we’re committed to continuing to improve our operations and to be the low fares leader that New Zealanders can rely on.”

Christmas Cheer

The timing of this capacity expansion aligns with Jetstar’s preparations for its busiest Christmas and New Year peak in New Zealand since 2019.

With expectations of over 180,000 passengers, a five percent increase from the previous year, Jetstar is poised for a festive season to remember.

The pinnacle of travel is anticipated on Saturday, December 23, as holidaymakers embark on their journeys.

Notably, the Auckland to Christchurch route tops the charts for the most popular domestic travel, while Auckland to Gold Coast claims the crown for the most sought-after Trans-Tasman route.

Performance Stats

Jetstar enters this bustling holiday season with impressive statistics. Achieving an on-time performance of 81.9% in New Zealand in November, the airline marked its best result for the year.

Additionally, the New Zealand domestic cancellation rate dropped to a commendable 1.1% – a record low for 2023.

The Trans-Tasman network also demonstrated improved reliability, boasting an on-time performance of 77.8% in November, the strongest month since the onset of COVID.

With a cancellation rate of 2.7%, Jetstar is positioned as a reliable choice for travelers seeking punctuality and consistency.

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance reliability, Jetstar has bolstered its team, recruiting over 120 frontline members in the past 12 months.

This, coupled with standby staff and the availability of spare aircraft during unplanned disruptions, underscores Jetstar’s commitment to ensuring a seamless travel experience.
