He will be sent to a federal prison for deliberately crashing the plane in the Santa Barbara County area.

This marks the conclusion of the court proceedings and overall investigation into YouTuber Trevor Jacob, who was accused of staging this crash to acquire views on social media.

Such a video on the social media platform was dubbed “I Crashed My Airplane”, and was released in December 2021.

Federal prosecutors in California said the following to the press:

“[He] most likely committed this offence to generate social media and news coverage for himself and to obtain financial gain”.

“Nevertheless, this type of ‘daredevil’ conduct cannot be tolerated,”

“Humbling” Experience, Says The YouTuber…

YouTuber Trevor Jacob had said that “this experience has been so humbling” and agreed with the court’s decision around sentencing.

Following the video upload in December 2021, he had his license revoked by the Federal Aviation Administration around 12 months afterwards, following lies told to investigators about the crash.

He had later flown to the site in a helicopter that was used to lift the wreckage and fly it to a trailer attached to his pickup truck, and disposed of it in bins after cutting the plane up into further pieces.

Many on social media have argued that the prison sentence is too light for the nature of the crime, with all eyes on how this commentary will evolve in the coming days.
