Skyports Infrastructure, a global leader in vertiport development for advanced air mobility (AAM), has completed its groundbreaking UK vertiport at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire.

This facility marks one of the UK’s first testing hubs for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. It paves the way for the future of electric air travel.

The facility also features advanced situational awareness tools, such as weather sensors and real-time aircraft tracking. This ensures operational safety and supports the passenger experience.

The Bicester Motion vertiport is a key achievement of the Advanced Mobility Ecosystem Consortium. It is a project under the UKRI Future Flight Challenge.

This initiative aims to demonstrate the viability of an AAM ecosystem in the UK. The vertiport will serve as a vital testing ground for eVTOL ground infrastructure and flight operations. When operational, it will support the development of next-generation electric aviation.

It will act as a “living lab” for the Consortium’s testing program, hosting demonstration flights, including those of Vertical Aerospace’s VX4 prototype. The facility will also engage the public and stakeholders, fostering support for AAM’s growth in the UK.

The Bicester Motion vertiport is designed for efficiency and scalability, showcasing how AAM infrastructure can integrate into urban environments. Key features include:

Compact Terminal: Built on just 0.42 acres (0.17 hectares), the terminal demonstrates how vertiports can fit into space-constrained urban areas while ensuring fast passenger throughput.

Passenger Processing Facilities: These include weight data collection, balance optimization, identity verification, and screening. A dedicated passenger lounge enhances the customer experience.

Operations Room: Equipped with Skyports’ Vertiport Automation System (VAS), the operations room features a custom dashboard for resource management and scheduling, supporting high aircraft throughput for all operators.

Situational Awareness Module: This provides real-time visualization of airspace, weather, and vertiport perimeter conditions, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
