In response to mounting criticism of the Haryana government regarding rising unemployment, the Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam (HKRN), a state public sector company, announced the recruitment of 10,000 skilled workers for Israel, addressing a severe shortage of manpower in the construction sector due to the ongoing conflict with Hamas.

As per the job vacancies listed by HKRN, candidates must have a minimum educational qualification of class X and fall within the 25 to 54 age group, with at least three years of relevant experience. The advertised salary for these positions is 6100 NIS (Israeli currency), approximately Rs 1.34 lakh per month, considering the exchange rate of 1 NIS to Rs 22.

Prospective candidates are expected to have expertise in industrialized building formwork, wood formwork, ceramic tiling of floors and walls, plastering work, and iron bending. Additionally, a sound knowledge of reading construction plans is a prerequisite for applicants.

The move by the Haryana government comes amidst reports of a severe shortage of workers in Israel, with around 90,000 Palestinians having their work permits canceled due to the ongoing conflict. Media reports also suggest that the Israel Builders’ Association has been in talks with India to address the shortage of construction workers.

This decision follows a statement made just a day earlier by junior minister of external affairs V Muraleedharan in the Rajya Sabha, denying any discussions between the Centre and Israel regarding the possible replacement of Palestinian workers with Indians. This response was provided in reply to a query by Congress MP K C Venugopal.

Junior Union minister for labour and employment, Rameshwar Teli, acknowledged in Parliament on July 20 that unemployment in Haryana has surged by 315% since 2014. Data presented before the Haryana state assembly in August revealed that 5,43,874 youths seeking employment were registered with employment exchanges across various districts of Haryana till July. Jind district had the highest number of applications with 52,089, followed by Kaithal (47,593), Hisar (46,453), Karnal (42,446), and Yamunanagar (34,642). In contrast, Gurgaon had 4,548 registrations, Faridabad had 4,696, and Panchkula had 7,565.Along with the recruitment for Israel, Haryana has also advertised positions for 50 bouncers in Dubai and 120 staff nurses, highlighting the government’s efforts to address unemployment issues on multiple fronts. With inputs from TOI
